This word bamboozles most of the people who belong to lay man’s kind. Technically this term could be used to cite any hardware or software programmers, designers and administrators who are adepts in their areas. This word may be used for a person who alters the electronics like the ham radio transceivers, printers etc.

In its downbeat subtext it may be used to a person who access computers illegally and decrypt protected documents and use it for unlawful purpose. In this context the work ‘hack’ occurs frequently. We can categorize the denotation attributed into four slices as –

1. When it comes to the aspect of computer programming, the word turn out to be a software programmer who congregates the high opinion of his peers. He may modify the existing codes or programs as he likes to dig up the new version.

2. In computer security, a hacker’s conscientiousness is associated with security of the system which in turn depends on the echelon of encryption the data. It is in this milieu that we can call RMS a hacker.

3. People in the technical field use this term to refer a person who formulates stuffs and that will be, according to the grapevine, beyond their own technical skill, (examples that can be cited are hardware hacker, reality hacker etc.)
