The report articulates that the research squad has identified a new source (starting place) for the river. The source is positioned in the south of Peru. Earlier it was deemed to be in the northern region. The new report says that Amazon is 6,800km (4,250 miles) long while that of Nile is 6,695km.

Guido Gelli, director of science at the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, is of the opinion that the results could be accepted and Amazon can be conferred with the new title.

The researchers said to have done lot of endeavors to curtail any boo-boo in the report. They spend for about 14 days; that too some times in freezing temperature expanse in order to locate the spot at an altitude of 5000m above the mean sea level (MSL) as Amazon is originating from an ice-covered mountain in Mismi, located in southern Peru.

 Facts

The correct location is yet to be deep-rooted. And more over while calculating the length of the river the source point and month region should be calculated precisely. There could be slips in this process and it is very tedious.

There are many in the scientific turfs who are discontented with the report.
